ARCHITECTURAL EXTENSION
PLANNING AND DESIGN + TECHNICAL

Ashford Road Residential Extension, Maidstone, Kent

The project is for a two storey residential extension to the side and rear of a detached dwelling in Maidstone, Kent. The clients wanted to improve their living accommodation and links to the garden, in particular to the presence of light and air. We were responsible for the design, secured the planning approval, produced the working drawings, and secured the building regulations approval.

The scheme creates the opportunity to create high quality architecture being traditional where necessary and contemporary where appropriate. A distinct two-stage design approach was adopted. The two-storey element is of traditional design to fit in with the existing building, ensuring a consistent appearance when approaching the house. The single storey element to the rear of the house is of unashamedly contemporary appearance, finished in white render with bi-fold doors to create an excellent relationship with the rear garden, and introduces light and air to the living accommodation.

The scheme has created a new open plan living/dining/kitchen family room, a new utility and a new integral garage that accommodates a car and the storage of bicycles and tools. A fifth bedroom is also created to the first floor, with its own en-suite facilities. The scheme was completed in 2016.
