BESPOKE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN EXTENSIONS
PLANNING AND DESIGN + TECHNICAL
Hillfield House, Detling, Kent
For this scheme the clients who currently own an bed and breakfast have appointed us to transform their B&B to a family home. This development proposed a rear and side extension to the current building incorporating glazing to create a contemporary home.
The existing layout does not work well. Currently, there are 6no. modest bedrooms, 3no. on the ground floor and 3no. on the first floor, with a shared dining room. The applicant wishes to convert the ground floor into family living accommodation and kitchen, with 3no. bedrooms on the first floor. Key problems relate to the modest size of some of the rooms and the “flow” of the property. A further problem is the general lack of light, and air, with the proposal failing to meet the aspirations of a contemporary lifestyle.
The proposal, in marked contrast, would address all of these existing problems. The general side extension would provide for larger and far better living accommodation, and enlargement of bedrooms, whilst the rear extension would create a contemporary link to the garden, welcoming natural light and air into the property. The modest front porch provides a separate entrance with appropriate storage.
This proposal has recently been granted planning approval and the client is keen to start building soon. Watch this space for updates on the build.
